Drs. Vance and Vince Moss, this years 2008 Trumpet Award (in Medicine) winners took home a local award recently that made us all from Upper Marlboro, MD very proud. Vance came in from their New Jersey located practice to accept the award for the men known as "same face healers" or "de-gon-gee" in Afghanistan. I've had the privilege of knowing these men for over 30 years being probably one of their only babysitters. I'm sure if the havoc they reeked on me was anything the next babysitter saw, she left and quickly. They were always into something from the time I met them when they were about 7 years old. I, in my teens, enjoyed them making me laugh, chasing me as only boys would do and of course trying to pull my shirt, skirt and hair. We were neighbors then and still today, their Mother (my mentor and friend) is, again, right near my parents. We just can't get away from each others family I guess. And it is great to have had the opportunity to be apart of their lives and their Mom too.
"Jo" would reach across the street and just grab me right up to go somewhere. I didn't understand the impression she was trying to make on me and where she was leading me. I just went along to get out of what I thought was a wrong direction in the path I was on. Never-the-less, moving away from our hometown, she still keep in touch as best she could. Filled with anger and whatever else... I drifted too far away to realize how important she could have been. She is a member of AKA, Ebony Fashion Fair this, some organization that and is ever busy with something including the children she gave birth too as well as others who crossed her path like me. Her social skills are the epitome of a woman on the go and in the know. She's a quiet who's who in her own right no matter what "celebrated one" she may cross paths with. It was a true honor to be invited by her to the Humanitarian Award ceremony for Vince, Vance and other outstanding acts of faith having members in the vast community called Prince George's County. I'm grateful to have spent the little time I did there and will never forget where I come from. Here's some photos of the ceremony that I managed to capture with my cell phone.

Wow. These Guys Have Done It All. Chilled Up In Dub-Ya's House And Everything. It Must Be Cool Personally Knowing Them Especially Since Childhood. I'm Sure They've Acclaimed A Certain Amount Of Success, But That's Not Even What Impresses Me The Most. They Just Seem Like Genuinely Great Guys With A Passion For Helping.
ReplyDeleteThey've been busy all their lives like that. Boy Scouts was there start plus Catholic Church Alter Boys and loads more. Their mom kept them very busy. She kept me busy when she could (laughs).
ReplyDeleteV&V and I were at the Ebony Fashion Fair recently, it was soooo good to see them and know how much good they've done and how much it has impacted me and many, many others, you know. Love them dearly.
